New Woodland Heights CEO learning the area

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - New Woodland Heights CEO Kyle Swift has used his first week on the job to familiarize himself with his surroundings in the Pineywoods.

"I've had a great opportunity to go out and meet the staff and physicians and community leaders in Lufkin,” Swift said. “It's been a great start."
Swift brings more than nine years of hospital management experience to Lufkin, having held administrative roles at two Texas hospitals: as Assistant CEO at Brownwood Regional Medical Center and as an Administrative Specialist at Laredo Medical Center. Since 2011, Swift has served as CEO of Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado, AR. For the native Texan and Aggie alum it was a nice change of scenery.

“The first thing I saw walking around was a lot more maroon then there was in El Dorado,” Swift said.

Swift said he was pleased with the recent cardio upgrades and new NICU center the hospital added.

"There have been a lot of great things and growth that has been put in place to build on in the future and that is something I want to continue,” Swift said.

During his tenure at Medical Center of South Arkansas, Swift oversaw a $3.5 million renovation/expansion of the emergency department, and grew outpatient services and patient access. The hospital was one of 49 nationally recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review for its low post-operative blood clot rates. Swift said he is not trying to change a lot of things right away and that his main focus is on the staff he has.

"My focus has been and will continue to be focusing on staff and physicians and delivering the right care,” Swift said.

Swift is moving to Lufkin with his wife Katy and their 5 year-old son.
