LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Over 60 golfers showed up to crown Colony Friday to give back to Angelina County animals.
Friday was the annual Dog Days of Summer Golf Tournament hosted by the Humane Society of Angelina County. The event is the biggest fundraiser the non-profit puts on each year.
"These golfers were great to come out today," Board President Yana Ogltree said. "They braved the weather; it's hot and not good, but they still come out to support us."
Ogletree said the organization has already come up with ways to use the money from the yearly event.
"We had a lot of rain earlier this year, and those animals, those dogs who were inside; we could not let them go out in the day because there were not any covers on the outdoor kennels," Ogletree said. "If it is really hot, we put tarps over the kennels and those don't stay, so this permanent structure will really help.
