GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) - U.S. Representative Kevin Brady, R-the Woodlands, made a stop in the Pineywoods Tuesday morning to get input from residents before heading back to D.C.
Brady will be heading back with a full plate. One of those issues being the House of Representatives' plan to defund Planned Parenthood after recent videos have surfaced with leaders talking about selling aborted babies' body parts.
"It's been frustrating," Brady said. "We need to defund Planned Parenthood now. Beyond abortions, the harvesting of organs is unlawful and unethical. Whether you are pro-life like I am or pro-choice, we have always agreed that you don't use tax dollars for abortions and you don't harvest organs for profit and so they don't deserve our tax dollars."
A similar plan was in the U.S. Senate but fell apart last week. Brady said he feels the House has a better shot.
The stop was at a special town hall meeting in Grapeland. Brady touched on several subjects while visiting with those in the small crowd.
"It is time that we arm our military at home," Brady said. "We cannot let these shootings keep happening."
Brady also touched on international politics where he pointed his focus towards the recent Iran nuclear deal.
"This deal does not make sense to me, Brady said." In a few years, Iran will be able to be a big threat to us again."
Brady also pointed to fixing jobs for people in rural East Texas as a priority.
"Houston County is a great place to live," Brady said. "We need to get those jobs here so people can be here and see that. I am willing to work with your guys on that."
