ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County celebrated a huge success. The county won the Bronze award in the 2014's Texas Healthy Communities Recognition Program.
The statewide program helps counties to assess their overall health and environments with goals to reduce risk factors of chronic disease. Angelina County's public health educator says they were challenged to do a community assessment.
The county was judged on eight indicators to determine which counties would be recognized. Several came out to celebrate Angelina County being one of those.
"There have been so many people who have worked for months on end to obtain this status of being recognized as a healthy community in Texas. I just wanted to congratulate them on the meritorious achievement," said Trent Ashby, Republican member Texas House of Representatives.
"Now we're going to move on to our next plan. We'll be re-assessed and next year, and we're going for the gold! said Paula Botsford, Angelina County Public Health educator.
The next project for Angelina County is an active movement plan. It encourages citizens to do at least 150 minutes of exercise per week.
