HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

One man was injured as a result of a crash involving a train and an 18-wheeler that occurred in Houston County Wednesday morning.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Houston County DPS trooper responded to a report of a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a train near the intersection of State Highway 19 and County Road 3450 at about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The preliminary crash investigation indicated that Michael Conell Turner, 58, of Houston, 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig was heading south on SH 19 when he tried to turn right onto CR 3450. His trailer got stuck in a culvert, causing the truck to stop on the railroad crossing.

The truck was then struck by a northbound train operated by Union Pacific Railroad.

Turner managed to get out of the truck before the train hit it. He was transported to Houston County Medical Center for injuries he sustained when he jumped out of his truck.
