The body of a missing 3-year-old boy has been located in a pond on his family's property east of Lufkin, off Highway 103 East.

Around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, search crews recovered the body of Mason Cuttler from a pond on Earnest Landrum Road, according to Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches. A deputy walking the property spotted the boy's body near the water's surface, about 120 yards behind the home.

Mason went missing around 1 p.m. Monday, while playing outside his home in a neighborhood off Old Ewing Road. His family was cleaning inside the home and his father said he sent the boy to play outside, away from the chemicals.

Searchers later located small footprints near a pond and spent the evening dragging the small body of water with nets.

Kevin Cuttler, Mason's father, said he has never wandered off before. "He used to hide up underneath the house until we call his name and he starts laughing but he'd never go anywhere else but underneath the house."

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Moffett Volunteer Fire Department, the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department search and rescue team, Texas Game Wardens, Texas A&M Forest Service K-9 unit, a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter, and Texas Search & Rescue all responded.

It was an emotional search for first responders, many of whom are also parents. "Every one of us out here, search and rescue along with law enforcement, we think of our kids when we're searching for someone else's child," said Paul Bickerstaff, a detective with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's investigators said they will release more information Tuesday morning.

KTRE has a news crew at the scene and will have updates on Good Morning East Texas, starting at 4:30 a.m.
