LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The body of missing 3-year-old, Mason Cuttler, has been located in a pond on his family's property east of Lufkin, off Highway 103 East.
"It makes you want to hug your children and your grandchildren because life can change in the blink of an eye," said Brenda Back, a family friend of the Cuttlers.
After the initial 911 call, several crews including Texas Game Wardens, Texas Department of Public Safety, K-9 units, and several volunteer fire departments flooded the area in search of Mason.
Back, who lives nearby, feared the worst but prayed for the best.
"I searched all my out buildings and through all our vehicles because I thought well he could have gotten up in one of and went to sleep," Back said.
Back has a small pond behind her home which crews searched, but Mason's body was later discovered in another pond, only about 120 yards from the Cuttler home.
"We had search and rescue teams going throughout the night and repeatedly going around the ponds in the area and one of the search and rescue members located the body in the pond," said Paul Bickerstaff, Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
It was heart-wrenching news for Back.
"It broke my heart. I cannot even fathom their pain," Back said.
Her feelings were also echoed by the crews who found little Mason's body.
"Yeah, it's always tough, dealing with somebody this age. Having to do what we had to do," Bickerstaff said.
And as for how the Cuttler's should move forward, Back offered this advice.
"Trust in God; that's really all you can say at a time like this," Back said.
Officials from the Angelina County Sheriff's office said Mason's death is currently under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
