LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The investigation has begun into what caused the death of 3-year-old Mason Cuttler.
The three year old's body was found Tuesday morning in a pond on the families property east of Lufkin off of Highway 103 East.
The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.
"We're conducting a joint investigation with Child Protective Services. They're partnering with us, and we're partnering with them to continue to establish a timeline and investigate the facts," said Lieutenant Brett Maisel with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
The family is cooperating with authorities during the investigation to help establish a timeline.
"We want to want to extend our condolences to their family because they have suffered a tragic loss, and so we want them to know that our thoughts are with them and thank them for their continued assistance and establishing the facts in the case." Maisel said.
Maisel said the sheriff's office thanks all of the federal, state, and local agencies as well as the volunteer fire departments that helped find the body of Mason Cuttler.
Officials from the sheriff's office said no arrest have been made at this time and they've requested an autopsy for the three year old.
