Special Election For Unit Road System

by Jessica Cervantez

The Angelina County commissioner's court had a busy day. They approved the request to hold a special election to vote on a unit road system.

That is after a petition where the county received more than 2,000 signatures.

Under the unit road system, an engineer is in charge of maintaining the county's roads. Right now, it is the county commissioner's responsibility. Most, but not all commissioners are against the system.

Robert Loggins, commissioner for precinct three, thinks it will bring Angelina County money in the long run.

But, Kenneth Timmons, commissioner for precinct two, says it can't be done without increasing taxes.

Both commissioners are asking that residents get out and vote. The election will be held May 7th.
