LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin ISD Education Foundation received a grant towards more school programs.
Crown Colony along with First Bank and Trust awarded The Lufkin ISD Education Foundation with a $10,000 check. The grant came from money raised during the 2015 First Bank and Trust East Texas Open.
"We are happy to be able to do it, we're very focused at the club on being a part of the community and giving back to the community and who doesn't want to get behind better education for our kids?" said Lin Lentz, the manager at Crown County Country Club.
Becca Chance, the president of the Lufkin ISD Foundation, said the check is going towards grants for ISD teachers.
"Ultimately, this check means so much to the Lufkin ISD Education Foundation. Because of the proceeds of this golf tournament many teachers are going to receive grants from the education foundation which ultimately benefit directly to school kids in LISD," Chance said.
This is the second year LISD will provide grants to teachers. Last year, a grant was awarded to Dunbar Elementary. Some of the teachers there used the funds to establish a butterfly garden.
Chance said the butterfly garden is just one of the bonuses from the grants. Another grant established a climbing wall for physical education teachers to use in trust exercises and team building exercises for students.
"Our goal this year is to get as much money as we possibly can into the hands of those teachers to affect the educational process in Lufkin ISD," Chance said. "Our goal truly is to raise that bar in education and give teachers the resources to do that so we are just anxious to get those applications in and get the money in the hands of those teachers,"
