LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Thousands of Lufkin ISD staff came together to get pumped up for the upcoming school year at the district convocation Friday at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center.
This year's theme is Lufkin Pride Unified.
"We're coming together and unifying in purpose and getting excited and geared up for our kids returning Monday," said Dr. Latonya Goffney, LISD Superintendent.
Goffney challenged the 1,300 school employees to build on last school year's success.
"Building on the success we already have, we have great kids, we have great teachers, and so just moving forward, making a difference for all of our children," Goffney said. "We want to challenge those, we want to intervene for those that need interventions and we just want to provide a place for our students to learn and grow."
Goffney said she's thrilled to see everyone return.
"It's exciting this is our third convocation since I've been superintendent and it's always exciting to see everyone come back," Goffney said.
Lufkin's state soccer champs were also presented with their state rings during the opening day convocation.
