SFA pole vaulter Demi Payne will be wearing USA across her chest again here shortly when she competes in the World Championships in Beijing, China.
The National Champion is one of three women across the country to represent the United States in the pole vaulting arena. Tagging along with her will be Sandi Morris, the Arkansas pole vaulter she's battled with all season and Jenn Suhr the London Olympic gold medalist.
It will by far be the biggest stage Payne's ever jumped on, but one she feels prepared for.
“I feel great. I feel strong. I've been here all summer working, I haven't really had a summer so I'm just feeling healthy. I just want to finish it with a bang and see what happens,” said Payne. “I'm going for 16 feet. I want that bar so bad so I think it's going to happen. I'll probably throw up an axe sign, you'll definitely see an axe sign somewhere.”
Payne's first jump will be this Sunday, August 23rd for the semifinals. If she qualifies for the finals she'll be jumping next Wednesday, August 26th.
