JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Jasper Police arrested a felon who allegedly ran from police after being spotted carrying a shotgun in the street in broad daylight.
According to Jasper Police Chief Robert MacDonald, the incident happened around 4 p.m. Monday near the Popeye's Chicken on North Wheeler Street. Authorities responded to a phone call that Demontra Cook, 25, was crossing Hwy 96 and carrying the shotgun.
MacDonald said after Officer Beckman and Justice of the Peace Niles Nichols spotted him, Cook took off running into a wooded area. Cook was transported to the county jail.
The shotgun was later found to be unloaded. Cook is charged with unlawful felony possession of a firearm. He remains in the Jasper county jail with a $5,000 bond.
