No one was injured when a truck hit two cows, drove off of US Highway 69 North, and wound up submerged in a nearby creek early Wednesday morning.

According to Lufkin Police officer, Zachary Klein, the driver of the white Dodge Ram pickup was headed south on US 69 near Lufkin’s Ellen Trout Zoo when his truck went off the road and hit two black cows at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver,Kevin Jacobs, said he was on his way to work.

"The cows were apart of the darkness," Jacobs said.

The impact caused Jacobs vehicle to wound up about 15 feet into a nearby creek, and only its headlights were visible.

One cow died on impact, the other cow had to be euthanized. Animal control officers may search the cows for brands or markings to connect them to the possible owners.
