LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Hospice in the Pines dedicates its time to providing care to patients with life-limiting illness along with their families. Wednesday morning, they celebrated 10 years of service.
Lufkin's leadership came out in full force to support The Hospice in the Pine's 10-year anniversary. The mayor, chamber president, and several other community leaders gathered to mark this anniversary of the in-patient care unit.
The unit, located in the CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, is a free-standing, non-profit organization. Creators of the charity care program said they're delighted to be standing 10 years later.
"I think this is such a wonderful occasion to be commemorating ten years of service. I am just overwhelmed with emotion!" said Demetress Harrell, executive director.
The vision for Hospice in the Pines began back in 1985 by five community leaders. The name was adopted in 1990.
