LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Several people gathered on the steps of Lufkin City Hall Thursday evening for a night of prayer.
Emotions ran high as preachers and members of churches from across the area prayed for the well- being of Lufkin in both English and Spanish.
The prayer's organizers believe Lufkin is in spiritual trouble due to high rates of crime, drug use, divorce, and violence.
"The chief of police declared that we are combating a spiritual battle," said Tina Marie Lopez of the Rey De Reyes Christian Church. "We're here to help the police and all of the authorities and just bring God's glory to Lufkin. We believe that you fight physically but you also fight spiritually and we're here just to bless the city of Lufkin."
Organizers were happy with the large turnout and hope more people will come to the next prayer they planning for in upcoming months.
