JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Jasper Police Department arrested a 23-year-old Jasper man on Monday in connection to allegations that he stole a city truck and loaded it up with copper rolls worth several thousand dollars.
Michael Eugene Collins was arrested and charged with third-degree felony theft.
Jasper Police Chief Robert McDonald said that Collins stole the truck from the city shop, which is located in the 900 block of North Main Street. McDonald said the theft occurred sometime between late Saturday afternoon and Sunday night.
After the Jasper Police Department received a tip, two officers and two detectives found truck tracks that led to Heritage Apartments, which are located near Main Street.
McDonald said when they got to the apartments, they found some of the copper in the yard and found more of it in a closet between apartments.
