Power out for hundreds after early morning Lufkin wreck

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Crews are working to restore utilities to several neighborhoods in south Lufkin after a vehicle hit a power pole Friday morning.

Sometime before 5:00 a.m., officers were called to a one-vehicle accident in the 1500 block of South First Street. A man hit a utility pole near Donut Palace, snapping it into several pieces and dropping the line across the road, according to police.

Officers have closed South First street from Janeway Avenue to the 1200 block, near Papa Johns Pizza.

The unidentified driver left the scene on foot, but was later found at Woodland Heights Medical Center on Loop 287. His condition is unknown.

Oncor crews have arrived at the scene. More than 200 customers are without power at this time.

Lufkin Police said they hope to clear the scene by 8 a.m., if possible.
