Silver Bucket Award

by Chris Cato

A man who didn't want the honor, and made it known to everyone, received the prestigious Silver Bucket Award Thursday night in Lufkin.

Bob Bowman is described by many as a man who works hard and doesn't expect, or want, anything in return. Friends of Bowman say he surely got a surprise when he received the award that's given to an individual who has greatly contributed to the economic growth of the region.

Bowman owns his own public relations firm. He's also founded several organizations and has helped fund more than 20 college scholarships to schools throughout the Pineywoods.

The Silver Bucket Award is presented by the Pineywoods Economic Partnership. It all started when Judge Stripling once honored an individual by saying that "he had carried a great deal of water" for East Texas. The Award has become an annual tradition for the PEP.
