LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - That gallon of milk you consider a staple in your refrigerator is missing in homes and food banks across East Texas.
Brookshire Brothers and its customers want to change that by "pouring it forward."
In partnership with Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization and the East Texas Food Bank, Brookshire Brothers is giving its customers the opportunity to make a difference with milk.
The Lufkin-based chain kicked off The Great American Milk Drive Wednesday at their Chestnut location.
More than one in every four children live with food insecurity. That's more than five million in just Texas and Louisiana where we have stores. Until Dec. 1, Brookshire Brothers customers will be able to remedy that by donating a gallon of milk at the register. The vouchers for the milk will be given to food banks throughout our market area to be given to folks they serve. The recipients will take the vouchers to their neighborhood Brookshire Brothers to redeem for milk.
Since its inception, The Great American Milk Drive has delivered more than 400,000 gallons - that's more than 6.3 million servings of milk to families in the country. That includes more than 8,000 for families right here in Texas and Louisiana.
Can't afford to give a gallon? You can bring milk to people in your community with a donation of $1, $3, or $5 when checking out at Brookshire Brothers.
