Lufkin’s Dhailon Phillips has been nominated for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl.
Dhailon is one of ten nominees for the weekly statewide award, which is 100% decided by fan voting. The poll, located at www.texasfootball.com, closes Friday at noon. The recipe for success, we’ve found, is schools that utilize social media to spread the word to their students, faculty, staff, coaches, parents and anyone that supports their team and community.
The nomination comes after Lufkin’s come-from-behind, overtime win over the Tyler Lee Red Raiders last week to take the game 52-49. Lufkin trailed by as many as 39 points shortly before halftime.
The junior wide receiver caught the last touchdown in the final minutes of the game to help send Lufkin into overtime for the win. Phillips ended the game with 10 catches for 228 yards.
