GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) - Citing health reasons, the Grapeland police chief has taken a temporary leave of absence.
Chief Chuck Franklin turned in a letter in August with the request, said acting Chief Kyle Duren. The city council approved the move at their Sept. 8 meeting.
"It is business as usual," Duren said. "We will have no new officers to handle the void. I will stay in the position until the chief comes back or he retires."
Franklin took over as chief after the former chief, John Smith, was fired in April 2013.
