LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - To say the Texas State Forest Festival is a big deal in the Pineywoods is certainly an understatement.
"It's a real big deal, we look forward to it," said festival attendee Donna Harris. "I think it brings a lot of people together."
"When it gets close it's all we talk about it," said festival attendee Haley Vick.
While several of the traditional attractions are available for attendees to see, there are some new things for folks to come and enjoy.
"We're mixing it up," said Angelina Chamber of Commerce President Jim Johnson. "When you do something for so many years, it's always nice to spice it up and bring a change to it."
Some of those changes include adding new rides, food vendors, and a brand new Lumberjack Show, that everyone seems to be enjoying.
Another popular new attraction was the Monkey Man from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
"It was a pretty cool monkey," said festival attendee Zoe Karn.
"It licked my face," joked festival attendee Zack Karn.
However, it seemed like first-day festival attendees' favorite new show was Flippen Out, an acrobat show out of Massachusetts which featured athletes that competed in Olympic trials.
"It was probably one of the best shows I've seen in a long time," Harris said. "It kind of opens our eyes to what kind of talent is out there."
The Chamber said those who want experience these new attractions are just going to have come out to the festival and see it with their own eyes.
