LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin is getting a new restaurant.

A spokesperson with the Newk’s Eatery corporate office confirmed that the chain will be opening one of its restaurants in Lufkin. Although the location of the future restaurant is not known at this time, the company spokesperson said the Lufkin Newk’s is expected to open by the end of 2016.

“We are in the restaurant business because we love food,” the Newk’s Web site stated. “We love experiencing food. We love preparing food. We love serving food. And we live to perfect it.”

The restaurant serves unique menu items including pizza, sandwiches, soups, mac and cheese, salads, and desserts.

The restaurant chain was founded in 2004 by Don Newcomb, Debra Bryson, and Chris Newcomb. According to the Newk’s Web site, the team started the Newk’s concept after they created, launched, and sold the McAllister’s Deli concept.

“As Chris Newcomb tested and perfected menu items, it became apparent this venture would more closely reflect the team’s personal passion in the kitchen,” the Web site stated. “As a matter of fact, many of the staple menu items were born from treasured Newcomb family recipes.”

Lufkin Economic Development Director Thad Chambers confirmed Ulta would also be expanding to Lufkin. The cosmetics store will be located on the corner of Tulane Drive and the loop.
