Proposals For Cell Phone Bans

by Jessica Cervantez

With cell phones becoming more and more common, the number of accidents caused by cell phones is also increasing.

A committee of Texas lawmakers is reviewing the four different bills on cell phones. One would require drivers to use a hands-free headset only. Another, would require drivers to keep from using a cell phone during school zones. Another, would keep bus drivers from using a cell phone unless it was an emergency. And the last, would allow drivers younger than 18-years-old to not use cell phones during the first six months of having a driver's license.

Local authorities say cell phones can pose as a distraction on the road.

No action took place, but the committee is expected to decided which bills to send to a vote by the Texas house next week.
