LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Today CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial and Texas Children’s Hospital announced they have entered into an agreement to explore the improvement of neonatal, pediatric and maternal services in Deep East Texas.

Texas Children’s Hospital is a Houston-based, non-profit health system offering pediatric and women’s services with a stated mission of supporting excellence in patient care, education and research with a commitment to quality service, and cost-effective care to enhance the health and well-being of children and women locally, nationally and internationally.

“Through our new ties to Catholic Health Initiatives, St. Luke’s Health, Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute, Memorial and its outstanding team of medical professionals now serve alongside some of the world’s best physicians, nurses and technicians in the medical field. Entering into a relationship with Texas Children’s Hospital only serves to further our capabilities and provide additional opportunities to serve the women and children of East Texas,” CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Market CEO Gary Looper said. “We look forward to developing this relationship in the months to come.”

The agreement will help explore programs that may be beneficial to the pediatric and maternal population in the deep East Texas area.

“From the smallest premature baby fighting to survive to women facing high risk pregnancies and all those in between, we believe a future partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital would best assist us as we continue providing the utmost in quality care and creating healthier communities,” said local obstetrician Michael Arnold, M.D.

Local pediatrician and Chief of Staff at CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial George Fidone, M.D., agrees.  According to Dr. Fidone, CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial has made pediatric care a priority, and this new relationship is proof positive that the hospital’s mission will better the lives of patients for years to come.

“I have known most of the ‘stars’ at Texas Children’s Hospital for more than 24 years,” said George Fidone, M.D., FAAP, of the Children’s Clinic of Lufkin. “We already enjoy an excellent reputation for delivering the highest quality pediatric care; now we can enhance our care through a synergistic clinical collaboration to deliver state-of-the-art care to our area's youngest citizens. It is a very exciting time for us to see one of our dreams materialize.”
