Kennard Girl Wins Singing Contest

by Jessica Cervantez

She's eleven, she's from East Texas, and she has won the first "Houston Rising Country Kid Star Contest." But with a voice like her's, some say it is no surprise.

Courtney Cole, a sixth grader, competed against more than 500 kids. First, Courtney performed a Willie's Bar and Grill where she became a finalist. Then she had to perform at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Chili Cook-off where she won. The competition was sponsored by three major radio stations in Houston.

Courtney won an array of prizes. She won a limo ride to see Rascall Flats at the rodeo, and she also gets to meet the group. She also won numerous certificates and the Kennard school's music department will get a $500 donation.

Courtney also competed in "America's Most Talented Kids" that will air in May.
