NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The newest governor-appointed member to the Stephen F Austin State University Regents is president and owner of a law firm, a public speaker, and a TV commentator.

Her name is Nelda Luce Blair. The real estate attorney from the Woodlands is also well versed in economic development. The Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation tapped into Blair's knowledge today at its annual meeting.

Blair had yet to meet SFA President Baker Patillo in person before the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation snapped her up as keynote speaker for its annual report meeting.  Those in economic development circles know Blair as a beneficial advisor.

"But let me tell you that the Texas economy and Texas hopes are up,” Blair said.

Blair holds leadership roles which put her in the know. Her clout at the state level, at the University of Houston Law School, the Woodlands and Greater Houston allows the business leader to recognize unique opportunities for all communities.

“You know what works for Houston doesn't work for Tyler, what works for El Paso doesn't work for Dallas, so we have to find out how we can really capitalize on the growth Texas is experiencing because it's such a booming state,” Blair said.

"I expect continuance of a good, positive operating performance, said Ron Collins, NEDCO’s treasurer.

Following a successful past year, NEDCO leaders report an optimistic coming year. A listed priority is attracting companies from other markets for job and investment growth. Blair puts Nacogdoches on the right track of riding Texas' hot economy.

“No community can survive on just one type of economic advantage. Texas is the same way,” Blair said. “The last oil boom many, many years ago nearly crippled Texas, but we've learned since then to become diversified and to bring in other industries and each city needs to do the same thing."

With introductions before Nacogdoches leaders out of the way, Blair has a jump start on building a productive relationship between SFA and Nacogdoches.

Renovation of Hotel Fredonia, the opening of the NISD Career and Technical Training Center, and several major retailers choosing Nacogdoches as location sites are all listed by NEDCO as their major accomplishments in 2015.
