LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Starting on Nov. 2, the admission fees at Ellen Trout Zoo will increase.

The new fees will be $7 for people between the ages of 12 and 59, $6 for seniors 60 and older, $3.50 for children between the ages of 4 and 11, according to the City of Lufkin’s Facebook page. Children under the age of 4 are free.

For groups of nine people or more, the rates are $3.50 for adults and $1.75 for children. The school rate (for students and teachers) will be $2 a person.

According to the City of Lufkin’s Facebook page, part of the money from admissions at the zoo goes to the city’s general fund to help support zoo operations, and most of the funds go into the zoo building fund to make improvements and help the zoo grow.

“Current projects of the zoo building fund include the zoo’s new state-of-the art commissary and newly renovated visitor walkways,” the Facebook post stated. “The last fee increase was in 2007.”
