NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

On Friday night, two members of the Stephen F Austin State University Music Department's string faculty will perform at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City.

East Texas News caught up with the married couple Tuesday morning to find out how they were invited to play at such a prestigious location.

An Italian summer is leading to a New York autumn for violinist Jennifer Dalmas and cellist Evgeni Raychev.

The performing duo is brushing up on selections first played at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy. On Friday night, the distinguished artists will open InterHarmony's New York concert season at the famed Carnegie Hall.

"It is a stage anywhere you go,” Raychev said.

Whether on a Carnegie Hall stage or SFA's Cole Center stage, it's the music that matters to Raychev.

"I find that playing an instrument is a dream to me and it's a dream that continues on and on,” Raychev said.

The love for music is mutual for Dalmas, but she only joins her husband after they both, individually, master their performance.

"A duo partnership, actually, is a lot like a marriage in that you have to compromise, and you have to talk to each other positively, constructively,” Dalmas said with a laugh. “It's great."
After New York, the couple performs again November 1 at SFA's Cole Center.

"I kinda consider this Carnegie Hall performance like a really, really, really fancy dress rehearsal,” Raychev said.

"I don't know if I consider Carnegie Hall the warmup performance,” Dalmus replied.

"I don't want to say that, of course,” Raychev said with a laugh of his own. “But I'm more excited than nervous."

The husband and wife musicians will be back in Nacogdoches for a Sunday morning performance at First United Methodist Church. The duo recital of their Carnegie Hall selections and much more will be on November 1 at SFA.
