ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A 41-year-old Huntington man died in an accident on FM 328 involving a pickup and a motorcycle Wednesday morning.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, William Eugene Bertram, the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice Pat Grubbs at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday.

At about 7:38 a.m. Wednesday, Lufkin’s DPS communications received a 911 call about a two-vehicle crash on FM 328 near Knightwood Road. The preliminary accident report indicates that a 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by Steven Edwin Phillips, 61, of Huntington was heading west on FM 328 when the accident occurred, the press release stated. At the time, he was delivering newspapers.

Phillips had reportedly pulled over to the eastbound shoulder to make a newspaper delivery when Bertram’s eastbound 2010 Harley Davidson struck the front of Phillips’ pickup. Bertram was not wearing a helmet, the press release stated.
