LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Tyler, Texas based Brookshire Grocery Company’s news that it’s exploring the possible sale of its company does not impact Brookshire Brothers which is based in Lufkin, Texas.

In an effort to clarify any confusion resulting from the news involving the similarly named company, on Thursday, Brookshire Brothers President and CEO Jerry Johnson told his company’s employees, “This news of a possible sale by Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) has no impact on our own plans for continued growth and our commitment to excellence for our company.”

Johnson went on to wish BGC’s management, employees and customers the best during this time.  Brookshire Brothers’ 6900 employees have 100% ownership of the Lufkin-based company.  Though the companies have the same family name, they have not shared ownership since 1928.

Founded in 1921, Brookshire Brothers has more than 106 retail operations in Texas and Louisiana. Its assets include grocery stores, convenience stores, as well as free standing pharmacy, tobacco and petro locations.

Ever expanding its footprint, Brookshire Brothers plans to open a store in Canyon Lake, Texas in early 2016 and an express store and pharmacy in Grapeland later in the year.  This summer the company opened new locations in Hamilton and Pilot Point, Texas.
