TRINITY, TX (KTRE) -

A hit and run accident led Trinity County authorities to the arrest of a man who had recently been indicted for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

According to Trinity Police Chief Steven Jones, a driver called in Tuesday afternoon and said he had been in an accident.  The other driver allegedly got out of his vehicle and fled on foot.  An anonymous caller let authorities know a person fitting the description was in the Trinity Arms Apartments.  Deputy Lee went on scene to assist.

23-year-old William Pierce allegedly ran out of the backdoor of the apartment and was later arrested.

Prior to Tuesday’s hit and run incident, a grand jury had indicted Pierce for sexual assault.

During the course of a home burglary investigation back on June 15th, it was revealed that Pierce had been allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl.  He was charged with burglary, and has now been indicted for sexual assault.

Pierce is being held in the Trinity Jail.  More charges for leaving the scene of a crash and evading arrest are pending investigation.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no bond has been set.
