First Friday Luncheon Focuses On Available Health Care

Quality healthcare was in the spotlight at this month's First Friday luncheon in Lufkin.

The University of Texas Health Center in Tyler serves thousands of East Texans every year.  The hospital specializes in treating lung diseases, cancer, and tuberculosis.

The Tyler facility is one of six health centers under the University of Texas system umbrella.

President Kirk Calhoun said, "We actually have patients that come to the health center for various kinds of chest and lung diseases, from over 200 counties in texas and from all 50 states, so we're a regional facility."

The UT Health Center at Tyler was founded in 1947 as the East Texas Tuberculosis Sanitarium.  The hospital can admit up to 3,300 patients.
