CENTER, TX (KTRE) - A two-month-long investigation into reports of illegal gambling at the Shady Oaks Convenience Store by the Center Police Department resulted in three felony arrests, the seizure of 12 gambling machines, and about $9,100 in cash.
Bilal Moton, 28, Lidia Moton, 52, and Younus Moton, 56, all of Center, were arrested and charged with state-jail felony engaging in organized criminal activity - gambling promotion, Class A misdemeanor keeping a gambling place, Class A misdemeanor possession of a gambling device, and Class A misdemeanor gambling promotion.
According to a press release, the Center Police Department opened an active investigation into reports of illegal gambling at the Shady Oaks Convenience Store. The investigation led to CPD investigators obtaining 12 arrest warrants and a search warrant for the store.
With the help of a Shelby County Sheriff's Office, the lead Center PD detective served the search warrant on the store at about 5 a.m. Thursday. Younus and Lidia Moton were arrested at the scene.
Bilal Moton was later arrested at the Center Police Department.
"The investigation was sparked by Shelby County Attorney Gary Rholes and Shelby County Assistant District Attorney Stephen Shires, who assisted throughout the entire investigation," the press release stated.
