SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - A Deep East Texas town is getting a new addition that will help at risk children.
On Tuesday, Judge Samye Johnson announced at the San Augustine County commissioner's court meeting the area has been granted a $275,000 Texas Community block grant. The grant will go toward building a facility by the county jail.
Child advocacy organizations and Child Protective Service offices will provide assistance to families and children who are in abusive homes.
"Teams come in and bring services to families to help them try to stay together and give better care for our children," said San Augustine County Judge Samye Johnson. "It's been critical that we get something like in our county."
Johnson said the project is expected to begin spring of 2016. She said she hopes to have the facility ready by this time next year.
