ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) - It's often said that a dog is a man's best friend, but for the Bridges, they said their dog Lucky was like their own child and the reason Author was able to recover from a stroke.
"I was in a coma for about five months," said Author Bridges. "God and my old lady and Lucky is the reason why I'm here."
Lucky went missing while boarded at the Jasper Animal Hospital in the beginning of October.
After actively searching for Lucky for almost a month, with the help of several people in the Jasper community, they haven't been able to catch him.
However, Monday, the Bridges received a call they'd never expected from a woman in Orange.
"A lady called and said that she has a grandson that lives with her and they had a little dog," said Barbara Bridges.
The woman had heard about Lucky and said they weren't able to take care of their dog, Coda, and her grandson wanted the Bridges to have him.
"It was amazing," Barbara said. "He was such a sweet, kind-hearted little boy."
From the moment the Bridges met Coda, it was love at first sight. It seemed for Coda, the feeling was mutual.
"He just took to us so quickly," Author said.
Through a tragedy of losing one beloved pet, the Bridges' are glad for the kindness of strangers that brought them a new one.
Should Lucky find his way home, he'll have a new brother waiting for him.
"If Lucky comes home, Coda will still have a home," said Author.
The search for Lucky continues. If he is seen, you are asked to call Jasper Animal Control. The family has set a $500 reward for his return.
