DOUGLASS, TX (KTRE) - Students at one East Texas elementary school are taking pumpkin decorating to an all new level.
Fourth graders at Douglass Elementary School got to exercise their creativity skills while decorating pumpkins.
It's all a part of a class project where students designs pumpkins after a character they chose from their favorite book.
"We've been talking about characters and setting in our fourth grade reading class. I just thought it would be a great way for the kids to think back on a book they've enjoyed and pick a favorite character and create a pumpkin," said Emily Ballard, a Douglass ISD teacher.
What initially started as a just a weekend project has now turned into a competition.
The students pumpkins will be judged by teachers Wednesday where the most creative pumpkin will be selected.
