LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin drivers are used to shelling out the big bucks when they fill up their cars.
"These outrageous $2.50 climbing up to $3.00 a gallon gas prices we've been seeing has been terrible," said Lufkin resident Kody Jones.
However lately prices have lowered.
"Prices are awesome right now," said Lufkin driver Emmili Jackson.
Nationwide, gas prices have dropped due to oil companies oversupplying to a weak demand from consumers. Here in East Texas, prices are $1.99 and under and it's really helping out some buyers.
"I'm excited about it because it's more money in our pockets," Jackson said. "You get to eat out more and activities have increased for us."
Being a student that goes to school, it's lower on my budget," Jones said. "We're paying almost five bucks a gallon so with it being $1.90, $1.95, it really tremendous. It's awesome."
However, not everyone agrees that the low prices at tank are a good thing.
"I hate the low gas prices," said Lufkin contractor Gary Alexander. "The economy is suffering because of it. The oil field, there's not too many jobs because of the low oil prices."
Which is something former employees of Lufkin Industries know all too well.
"It affected me personally because I was an employee of Lufkin Industries and it caused me to go back to the drawing board financially," Jackson said. "In every aspect it affected me."
So, for those expecting prices to rise anytime soon, don't. Experts predict they will stay low through end of the year.
