DESOTO, TX (KTRE) -

ESPN is reporting that PETA is calling on authorities to investigate whether former Lufkin Panther and Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant illegally owns a baby monkey.

Bryant posted a photo of the monkey on his Instagram account last week.

According to ESPN, PETA said in a statement that the "baby capuchin was torn away from his mother shortly after birth and needs special care that now only be provided by wildlife experts.

PETA is asking DeSoto animal control to seize the monkey, according to a municipal code that says one can own a monkey only with a special-use permit granted to zoos, schools, pet distributors, rodeos or circuses.
