LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man has agreed to a 15-year prison sentence for sexually abusing two girls over a period of two years.
Tommy Eugene Finch, 62, entered the plea of guilty Tuesday to two counts of second-degree indecency with a child. He will serve two 15-year sentences concurrently.
District Judge Paul White approved the plea.
Finch had originally been charged with two counts of first-degree continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Finch was arrested in April after admitting to kissing two girls under the age of 14 on the mouth and touching them inappropriately between May 2011 and December 2013.
It was a plea hearing that did not take long to reach the court.
"This case has not been pending on the docket very long," said Al Charanza, Finch's Defense Attorney. "Mr. Finch is very remorseful for what he did."
"I believe that Tommy Finch received a reasonable sentence based on the circumstances of the case," Charanza said.
Charanza said the agreement spared the victims and their families reliving the abuse in a jury trial.
"One of the things Tommy Finch did not want to do it take their family through a trial," Charanza said.
In an impact statement, an emotional family member said to Finch, "I can't fix this. I can't take this away from these kids."
"Both sides. The district attorney's office and Mr. Finch and I went to work out a reasonable agreement so that there would not be a trial and there would be a resolution for not only Mr, Finch but for the family and the victims as well," Charanza said.
Once Finch completes his sentence in TDCJ, he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
