NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches County jury convicted a 41-year-old man Wednesday for beating up his 77-year-old uncle back in April after the two men got into an argument at a house on Orton Street.
Later Wednesday, the jury sentenced Germaine Lydell Edwards to eight years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison. Edwards' jury trial was held in Judge Campbell Cox's 145th Judicial District courtroom. The jury found him guilty of first-degree felony injury to elderly, and now they are deciding his sentence.
According to the arrest affidavit, the fight took place at a house in the 900 block of Orton Street. When Edwards got into the fight with his uncle and hit him repeatedly in the face and head, it caused injury, the affidavit stated.
The affidavit stated that when family members arrived on the scene, Edwards began assaulting them as well. Edwards admitted to police that he lost control and assaulted three of his family members.
Edwards was arrested at the scene and transported to the jail.
