LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Despite a chance of weekend rain, Lufkin ISD is preparing for their annual Honor America performance.
The annual performance used as a fundraiser for the Lufkin ISD band program is set to take place Saturday night at Abe Martin Stadium. Admission to the event is $5.
"From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. we will have a special meal," said Lufkin band director Scott Williams. "We will have hot dogs and apple pie with ice cream."
After the meal, the festivities will move to the stadium and there will be a special concert with bands from all grade levels.
"The show will be the first time the 6th grade band performs for the public, so it is really cool," Williams said.
The night will end with a special fireworks performance.
"The fireworks are always a big deal," Williams said. "They are being given to us by Dr. Naranjo, so we are so thankful for what he is doing. We were worried about the burn ban. We're glad that it is not a burn ban. People were praying for rain, and it worked."
Williams said if the rain does come on Saturday night, the performance will be moved to Monday but the meal will take place on Saturday no matter what.
