LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Tuesday a family of six is a step closer to getting their dream home. The Habitat for Humanity of Angelina County held a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Alex and Kandice Blow were previously living in a two bed room home. Now thanks to Habitat for Humanity and several grants, the family will finally move into a home on Culverhouse in Lufkin. The family put in nearly 600 hours to help build the home.
The home is expected to be complete in about two months.
"It's incredible to me, and it's incredible that we're building up this community right here on Culverhouse Street where the east Texas Cotton Club used to be," said Terri Cawley, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Angelina County. "Now we're going to have three families living here. It's going to be vibrant again. That means a lot that we're making Lufkin a better place to live."
This will be the 18th home Habitat for Humanity of Angelina County has built. They'll begin work the 19th home next week.
Cawley said they're always looking for volunteers, if you're interested in helping out you can call the Habitat for Humanity office at (936) 632-8445.
