Lufkin and Longview have met at Tyler Rose Stadium for a bi-district matchup in back-to-back years, and the Panthers have now lost in the bi-district to Longview in back-to-back seasons.
The Lobos ended the Panthers season Friday night, serving Lufkin with a 31-10 loss.
The game started with a pair of field goals by both sides. Lobos’ Cody Jenkins connected a 36 yard field goal before Panthers’ Rodrigo Molina topped Jenkins off with a 43 yard field goal to tie the game 3-3.
Longview would get the first touchdown of the night and it started with Stacy Nelson picking off a pass. From there, Braylynn Anthony would run in for a 50 yard touchdown and a 10-3 lead.
Lufkin responded in the second quarter when Kordell Rodgers slung it 20 yards to Javante Ellington to tie the game again at 10-10. That’s how the first half ended.
Once the third quarter started, it was game over. Lobos’ Austin Moore started things off with an 11 yard touchdown to take a 17-10 lead in the third quarter.
Longview broke through again, this time it was Tylan Miller who scored a five yard touchdown. Longview ended the third quarter with a 24-10 lead.
The last score of the night would come from Longview’s Anthony on a nine yard carry.
Longview now leads the all-time series at 38-36-4. Lufkin has now lost to Longview three consecutive times coming short five of the last six games.
Longview will face Mansfield Summit next Friday.
