POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

An 8-year-old Polk County boy died in a mobile home fire Wednesday night.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino said that the fire occurred at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday night. The home was located in the Forester’s Retreat subdivision off of Mangum Road in Polk County.

Sheriff Kenneth Hammack said Jessica Stokes and her four children, aged 2, 4, 6 and 8, were inside the mobile home when the fire started. Stokes was able to get three of the children out . But investigators believe the 8-year-old was trying to help his siblings get out but got turned around in the home due to the heavy smoke and fire and lost his way. He was later found dead in the kitchen area.

The Livingston Fire Department and the Scenic Loop VFD responded to the blaze.

Hammack said the fire is under investigation.

Hammack said the family is needing new or gently used clothing. They can be donated by contacting Crystal Finegan at Childrenz Haven at 936-327-4757.
