East Texans have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant in Tyler. Now that the eatery has opened, residents of Tyler and surrounding areas have been lining up to get their hands on their favorite Abuelo's dishes.
Many East Texans have fond memories of eating at Abuelo's while at school in Austin, or at College Station, so not only does the food bring them in, but the memories do, as well. And memories are part of the reason that the chain has been so successful and well-loved by many.
Corporate Executive Chef Luis Sanchez says, "I love to re-create recipes from our past, recipes from our families, from our friends. Recipes that we love and that we can present with pride to our customers."
Sanchez says he was taught by his grandmother to cook from the heart and with pride, and says he has taught the company's chefs to do the same.
According to the pictures from our attendance at the restaurant's soft opening, he's done a great job training those chefs.
The restaurant joins several other eateries in the Village at Cumberland Park on South Broadway in Tyler. Abuelo's Tyler is located at 8926 S. Broadway. Hours are Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Their number is 903-581-2611.
