LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

It's been over two months since Brookshire Brothers kicked off their Great American Milk Drive campaign, and so far, over $44,000 have been raised.

That money translates to over 6,000 milk vouchers for deserving families.

The campaign aims to give Brookshire Brother's customers the chance to make a difference with milk by donating money when they checkout.

On average, each child needs 50 gallons of milk each year, but some children, including many in Deep East Texas, only get less than one gallon.

"More than 700 people have been served right here in Angelina County, they've gotten much needed vouchers and there'll be two more waves of vouchers that will be coming in and distributed locally," said Sally Alvis, the director of public relations for Brookshire Brothers.

You still have a chance to make your donation to the Great American Milk Drive.

The campaign runs now through December 1st at all Brookshire Brothers stores.
