A hostage situation in Lufkin turned deadly after Jimmy Davis shot and killed a woman in her Lufkin home.
Officers on the scene say the family called in a domestic disturbance earlier in the night, but when officers arrived they were told Davis had a gun. Officers were forced to stay outside the home as the people inside communicated with officers over the phone.
At one point, officers heard gunshots and the phone line went dead. Shortly after that, the suspect came out of the house and surrendered.
Officers are not releasing the name of the woman pending notification of her family. An investigation is underway to determine what sparked the incident.
In addition to the deceased, another woman and a small child were also in the home at the time of the shooting. They were not injured and were released shortly before Davis surrendered.
