Three people are dead, after the helicopter they were in crashed in East Texas Thursday.
It happened around 2 PM Thursday afternoon in the northern portion of the Sabine National Forest in Shelby County about 11 miles southwest of Center.
A helicopter was contracted by the US Forest Service to conduct prescribed burning in the heavily wooded area. Not much is known about the accident at this time, but officials tell us complications during the flight caused the helicopter to go down.
The helicopter crashed in an area of thick woods.
The pilot, Jose Gonzales, and his crew, John Greeno and Charles Edgar all died at the scene.
DPS officials have now turned over the accident investigation to the US Forest Service.
